Late 20th Century

THE DAYS LONG AGO

The Technology of today is far from the technology that my parents had. They often told me that I must be thankful because I was born in the generation wherein technology already blossomed. They live simply and simply enjoying every resource they possess.  My Parents are both from Region 8, Eastern Visayas. They are both Warays.

My father is from province of Leyte in the town of Palo. They live simple but were deeply happy. They had black and white television to watch sometimes but they listen often to the radio than television. He also reads newspapers to hear current issues and news in the country especially in his province. They hear drama and stories which are funny like Johnny-Johnny, a joke stories, where he enjoys much. They play outdoor Pinoy games like tumbang preso and alike. In his college days, he was then able to use the typewriter as means for making schools projects and they often go to library for research. He was able to use the old type of telephone Rotary phone in his 20’s.

My mother is from the other side of the region; she is from the province of Samar. She almost had the same means of technology with my father. They also listen to radio but they didn’t have a television. Together with her friends my mother also plays outdoor games. During night, they have that so called ‘Bayle’ or dancing chacha especially when a barangay fiesta is approaching. In her college days, he was then able to use the typewriter as means for making schools projects and they often go to library for research. They use mails to send message to a relative or use airmails for immediate letters.

They enjoyed very much the days they had. Although far from today, they still can recollect what they experienced in the days long ago.
